he Race Director is responsible for the overall execution and success of the Calgary Kids of Steel Triathlon. The Assistant Race Director supports the Race Director by managing on-the-ground logistics and volunteer operations for the Calgary Kids of Steel Triathlon. This role ensures each area — transition setup, registration, course marshals, and timing — runs smoothly. The Assistant Race Director is the main point of contact for volunteer captains and is actively present during setup, race execution, and teardown.

Responsible for recruiting, organizing, and communicating with volunteers for the assigned event. Works with club members and community partners to fill all volunteer positions and ensure clear communication of shift details and expectations. During the event, manages the check-in and check-out lists for all volunteers — including setup, race day, and teardown crews — to ensure accurate tracking, accountability, and volunteer recognition.

Monitor intersections and guide cyclists along the route, ensuring athlete safety and clear directional flow.

Assist with vehicle and pedestrian traffic management around the race venue to ensure athlete and spectator safety. Direct vehicles during setup, race, and teardown periods under the supervision of the Safety or Bike Captain, and help maintain clear emergency access routes.

Support the registration captain by assisting with race day check-in for late package pickup and body marking.

Responsible for pulling athletes from the water when needed and coordinating with Kayak/SUP Support and the Swim Captain to ensure a fast, safe response to any incidents. Must be comfortable working near the water and prepared to assist physically if required.

Hand out medals and water, assist tired athletes, and help maintain order and safety at the finish area.

Direct runners along the route, provide encouragement, and assist with crowd and course management.

Oversees electronic timing operations with Zone 4, ensuring accurate race start times, split data, and final results reporting.

Assist athletes in the transition zone, monitor traffic flow, and help maintain order and safety during race transitions.

Provide on-water safety support during the swim portion of the race. Monitor athletes along the course, guide them as needed, and signal Shoreline Spotters or lifeguards if a swimmer requires assistance or removal from the water. Volunteers must be confident and capable on the water, equipped with a whistle or signal device, and remain alert throughout the swim event. Must have their own Kayak.

Assist with purchasing, preparing, setting up, and serving breakfast for athletes, volunteers, and officials. Ensure food and beverage areas are organized, restocked, and cleaned up following service. Works with the Race Director to ensure all dietary and timing needs are met. Will be responsible for picking up and return of BBQ/Grill from vendors.

Assist the Breakfast Coordinators on race morning with setup, cooking, serving, and cleanup for the volunteer and athlete breakfast area. Help prepare food and beverages, restock supplies, and ensure the area remains tidy and welcoming throughout service. A great role for early risers who enjoy creating a positive start to race day.

Assist with post-event cleanup and equipment teardown, ensuring all race materials are collected and the venue is restored.

Support athletes on the run course by staffing water and nutrition stations. Responsibilities include setting up tables, filling and handing out water or electrolyte cups, restocking supplies, cheering on athletes, and maintaining a clean area throughout the event. Must be prepared for a fast-paced, outdoor environment and able to stay positive and encouraging as athletes pass through.

Oversees all activities in the finish line area, including supervising the Finish Line Volunteers. Responsible for arch setup and teardown, coordinating athlete flow, and ensuring the area remains safe and organized. Works under the supervision of the Race Director to assist with awards calculation and presentations for all three categories — Lott Creek Race, Alberta Provincials, and Western Canada Race. Ensures the finish area is professional, efficient, and celebratory for all athletes.

Oversees the club’s entire volunteer program throughout the season. Manages the volunteer software platform, tracks volunteer hours, and ensures members meet their annual volunteer commitments. Provides ongoing reporting to the board and helps maintain a positive and well-organized volunteer experience for all members.

Supports the coaching staff by supervising athletes during team travel events, ensuring a safe, respectful, and organized environment. Works closely with the Female Chaperone and coaching staff to manage meals, accommodations, transportation, and curfews. This role is required when male athletes are traveling without a male coach present.

Assists the coaching staff in supervising athletes during team travel, maintaining athlete well-being, safety, and adherence to team rules. Collaborates with the Male Chaperone and coaches to oversee room checks, meals, and logistics. This role is required when female athletes are traveling without a female coach present.

Help organize and run the club’s End-of-Season Social, including setup, decorations, check-in, and cleanup. Assist with food service, awards, and ensuring a smooth and enjoyable event for athletes, families, and supporters.

Oversees all aspects of club merchandise, including ordering, inventory management, pricing, and distribution to members. Works with the IT/Marketing Manager to promote merchandise through the club website and events, ensuring consistent branding and availability throughout the season.

Responsible for managing all athlete race and training apparel for the club. Oversees the Jakroo trisuit orders each season, including design approvals, ordering windows, and delivery coordination. Works with suppliers to source and order new bike kits, team clothing, and accessories as needed, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with club branding. Collaborates with the Merchandise Manager and Marketing/IT Manager to promote and communicate ordering details to members.

Manages the club’s website, digital communications, and marketing materials, ensuring information is accurate and current. Supports event promotions, manages online registration links, updates sponsor logos, and assists with social media outreach to showcase club achievements and events.

Assist with the planning and delivery of the Kicking It With Kronos Adult Social and Fundraising event, including event planning, setup, ticket sales, and on-site coordination. Help promote the event, engage with families, and ensure a fun, welcoming experience that represents the spirit of the Kronos Triathlon Club.
